John Vere hosted an informative 2 hour workshop to help you decide what to do about rising energy costs. Topics covered were Wood Heat, Solar Power, Electric heat, Natural Gas and Propane. John compared each type of system and explained the pros and cons.  The focus was on heating systems but John touched on all home energy topics.

The Workshops were open to anyone interested in learning more about the Woodstove Exchange Program. There are only 7 more allotments for Woodstove upgrade reimbursements.

The Provincial Wood Stove Exchange is a program designed to encourage British Columbians to change out their older smoky wood stoves for low emission appliances including new CSA/ EPA-certified clean burning wood stoves.

New technology appliances are proven to burn 1/3 less wood, to reduce emissions by up to 70 per cent, and to significantly reduce risks of chimney fires. However, there is still a significant amount of old smoky wood stoves in operation around the province and these units can affect the health of homeowners, their neighbours, and overall air shed health.

The Provincial Wood Stove Exchange Program is run at a community level through grants provided by the province.  The program includes financial incentives to upgrade old wood stoves or inserts and education to help all wood burners improve their burning practices.  Simple changes to the way people burn wood in their stoves or fireplaces can help minimize smoke, increasing the heat provided from wood burning, and limit people’s impacts on their neighbours.
