Primary Strategic Planning Goals

VISION STATEMENT

We shall be valued as an essential level of government which coordinates and distributes regional services in an effective, equitable and responsible manner.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide a professional level of governance and advocacy both responsive and accountable to the needs of our regional community.

Primary Overall Goals

  1. Reorganize governance (other models) reduce levels of government (Regional Growth Strategy, boundary expansion/extension)
  2. Environmental Stewardship/Leadership (including cultural, consolidation of water, improvement districts)
  3. Partnerships (RDKB/community, service delivery, communities and orgs beyond RDKB jurisdiction (IHA))
  4. Efficiency in service delivery (maintain, or increase while not increasing requisition)
  5. Open/adaptive/innovative (new ways to doing business/grow while being financially responsible, prepare for uncertain future)
  6. Coordinated support
  7. Improve communication/trust (expand RDKB presentations and town hall meetings)

  • Director Taylor submit report regarding contribution/requisition from City of Grand Forks to BEDC.
  • Determine level of tourism mandate
  • The status of Information Technology services and the development of a Marketing/Communications Plan is included in budget deliberations.
  • Tech Fairs – Jennifer to develop a concept for tech fair working in consultation with Director Stevenson
  • Jennifer to resume work with Invest Kootenay – a re-evaluation of program and comes new parameters to determine how to better support program and receive benefits

  • Wendy to draft template letter for BEDC participants to use in supporting Community Futures Boundary to continue to provide employment programs around people with disabilities and women’s programs
  • Staff meet with the Boundary Community Futures Corporation to finalize a five year agreement for the Committee’s consideration.
  • Letter regarding gaming grants
  • Follow-up with potential funding from SIBAC for Regional Chamber and for the Boundary Ag Committee
  • Follow up with determining level of support to the Regional Chamber from the BEDC overall
  • Confirm that costs for attendance at TOTA Annual Conference are included in the Travel and Conference Budget and whether some of these funds can be utilized for attendance at Agriculture Conferences
  • Revisit contribution to the Okanagan Film Commission
  • Include funds for BEDC to be member of Tourism of the Rockies
  • Director of Finance provide information on how the Federal Grant in Lieu works
  • Director of Corporate Administration request Director of Finance to provide analysis on the impacts any additions will have on the budget
  • Need to determine how much remains from the previous year in the Miscellaneous Revenue Budget
  • Letter to Mr. Gustafson advising of support for the need for additional residential care beds in the area, but the BEDC cannot become involved
  • Jennifer Wetmore follow-up with Ag Plan timelines
  • Regional District of Kootenay Boundary submit payment to Calissi/Crane
  • Regional District of Kootenay Boundary staff determine if there are adequate funds for participation at the TOTA Annual Tourism Summit

  • Eco Action program referred to Jennifer & Elaine for further research
  • BEDC members submit comments, ideas for the strategic planning session – have some input, ideas etc. for discussion at the October BEDC meeting
  • Jennifer will follow-up on inviting the broadband providers to a BEDC meeting
  • Director Stevenson advised that he will get Telus to come to a meeting
  • Director Rotvold suggested Jennifer get in touch with Jeff Bray of Shaw
  • Orientation Binder for the Agricultural Committee members – joint effort RDKB staff and Jennifer
  • Jennifer to contact Vital Signs to make presentation at future BEDC meeting
  • Jennifer will work with TOTA in drafting articles on the Boundary region and arrange for their inclusion in the vacation planner and in the tourist travel publications
  • Forward letter to RDKB to determine if there is interest in partnering with the BEDC to link websites and to involve the RDKB in maintaining the Roger Brooks website portal and in managing the E-Newsletter
  • Jennifer to arrange participants and other details on the September 16th rail meeting in Stevens County
  • Jennifer to draft a letter to the City of Grand Forks summarizing the work, involvement and activities of the BEDC in its participation to stop the potential rail closure
  • That a letter be sent to the City of Grand Forks for the September 8th, 2009 Council meeting articulating the BEDC’s concerns regarding the recommendations made in the Grand Forks Transition Plan which involve the BEDC without additional human and financial resources
  • Award Ag Plan contract to Calissi/Crane
  • Include a discussion on the Okanagan Film Commission/film potential in boundary as an item on October 6th BEDC agenda – Director Baird to present a report
  • Grace McGregor contact RDKB Director of Planning and Development regarding staff resources for the Boundary Water Management Committee
  • That the involvement of Planning and Development staff on the Water Committee be referred to the Planning and Development Committee
