The Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) may be described as a provincial zone in which agriculture is recognized as the priority use. Farming activities in the ALR are encouraged and non-agricultural uses are controlled. Zoning within the boundaries of the Regional District reflects that of the ALR.
Applications for: exclusion; inclusion; subdivision; or non-farm use made under the Agricultural Land Commission Act, must be filed with the Regional District. The Regional District will process the application and forward it to the Land Commission with a staff report and resolutions of the Planning & Development Committee and Board of Directors.
Regional District Planning staff can assist you in determining the ALR status of your property and any application requirements specific to your property and application type. Additional information may be found on the Agricultural Land Commission’s web site. (See the “Applicant Information Package”, which also outlines the application requirements.)
Note: The Forest Land Reserve Act was repealed in the spring of 2004 and the new Private Managed Forest Land Act now applies to all private land that is assessed as Managed Forest.
