As a convenience, the Planning Department has consolidated several different types of applications on to one simplified form (click here to download). This form may be used to file the following applications:
- Official Community Plan and/or Zoning Bylaw Amendments
This application is used for applying for a change to a land use designation or policy in an Official Community Plan, or to change a zone or regulation in a Zoning Bylaw. Planning Department staff would be pleased to provide copies of specific OCPs and Zoning Bylaws.
- Development Permit
In some parts of the Regional District (e.g. most of Big White, all waterfront and commercial properties at Christina Lake and some industrial properties in the Columbia Gardens area) an owner must obtain a Development Permit before they can apply for a Building Permit. This is to provide the Regional District with an opportunity to review and approve the design of multi family, commercial and industrial developments in these areas and to help safeguard water quality at Christina Lake by promoting improved sewage disposal systems.
- Development Variance Permit
A simplified process which allows some regulations (e.g. fencing or parking standards) contained in a Zoning Bylaw to be modified. This process cannot be used to change land use or density standards.
- Temporary Commercial and Industrial Use Permits
To permit temporary commercial or industrial uses in non-commercial or industrial zones subject to guidelines and limitations spelled out in an Official Community Plan.
- Board of Variance Applications
Where a demonstrated hardship exists an application can be made to the Board of Variance for minor changes to certain zoning regulations. Applications can also be made to the Board of Variance for permission to enlarge a legal non-conforming use. You can download the Board of Variance application form by clicking here (Adobe PDF document).
**The applications listed above apply throughout the District. However, there is a separate application form for Big White Ski Resort. A copy of the Big White Application Form can also be downloaded. Planning Staff can assist with any questions.
