KOOTENAY BOUNDARY REGIONAL FIRE RESCUE

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue (KBRFR) is receiving applications for the position of Deputy Regional Fire Chief.  KBRFR provides fire and emergency services to five municipalities and two electoral areas within the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB).  The ‘service area’ includes; the Cities of Rossland and Trail, the Villages of Warfield, Montrose and Fruitvale, and Electoral Areas “A” and “B”.

This is a composite department providing service from six fire companies equipped with 19 pieces of fire apparatus, approximately 130 Paid-On-Call Firefighters, 14 Career Firefighters and a Secretary-Dispatcher.  KBRFR also performs the Emergency 9-1-1, Fire Dispatch function for 38 fire halls for the Regional Districts of Central Kootenay and Kootenay Boundary.

The RDKB Emergency Management Plan is responsible for guiding the response to an emergency in all five Electoral Areas and three municipalities. This service also supports emergency preparedness and response in four other member municipalities.

GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Deputy Regional Fire Chief reports to the Regional Fire Chief, KBRFR, and this is the second most senior management position within the department.
  • The Deputy Regional Fire Chief will assist with all administrative duties and ensure that the service is delivered according to Board Policy.  The Deputy Regional Fire Chief shall assume the duties of the Regional Fire Chief in his absence.
  • The Deputy Regional Fire Chief is responsible for the administration and delivery of the RDKB Emergency Management Plan.
  • The Deputy Regional Fire Chief is responsible for assisting in the administration and delivery of all fire protection services according to Board Policy, within the ‘service area’.
  • The Deputy Regional Fire Chief will ensure that there is a high level of morale within the Career and Volunteer ranks and maintain a positive working relationship between manpower components and fire stations.

The Deputy Regional Fire Chief’s position is a non-union position with a starting salary rate of $89,606.00 and a competitive benefit package.  Interested individuals are requested to forward their resumes by 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2010 to:
