How to use your Blue Box

Curbside recycling is easy and convient. However with any new service there are just a few steps you need to follow to ensure the cost of the service remains affordable. Remember, recycling is an industrial process, similar to mining. The purer the material, the greater the value to the processer.

Material that is contaminated with non-recyclables represents a cost to taxpayers. By organizing your blue box you can make it easier and cheaper for the RDKB to provide this service.

Follow these simple steps:

Place collapsed cardboard beneath the blue box

Place newspaper on the bottom of the blue box

Pile the tin cans, rigid plastic food containers and glass food containers on the newspaper

Place all mixed paper into the blue bag provided and place on top of the other materials in the box.

Please! Remember, we live in bear country. All your food containers retain bear-attracting food odors. Please rinse all food containers. Please do not put your blue box, or your garbage container at the curb until 7a.m. of the moring you are schduled for pickup. Blue boxes and garbage containers left overnight are magnets that attract bears to your neighbourhood.

How to Use the Schedule:

1) Locate your neighbourhood on the map
2) Identify the colour associated with your area
3) Your pickup day is the day on the calendar that matches the colour of your neighbourhood.

Note: Pickup schedule is not affected by Statutory Holidays unless the pickup day falls on Christmas or New Years Day. Residents will be notified of any change in the pickup schedule.
