| Overview The RDKB is responsible for providing planning services to its five unincorporated Electoral Areas. This is includes such activities as the preparation of Official Community Plans and Zoning Bylaws, the issuance of Development and Temporary Use Permits, assisting with applications to the Agricultural Land Reserve Commission, commenting on subdivision proposals and instituting floodplain management and other environmental protective measures. The Regional District also works cooperatively with its member municipalities to coordinate land use strategies in urban fringe areas. In addition the RDKB provides house numbering services for the electoral areas and mapping services for the entire region. | |
Official Community Plans An Official Community Plan (OCP) sets out a long term strategy for the physical, economical and social development of an area. OCPs are adopted by the Board of Directors as a formal Bylaw applicable to an unincorporated Electoral Area. The primary purpose of an OCP is to ensure that new development takes place in an orderly and economically efficient manner and that desired community characteristics and environmental qualities are protected. RDKB Official Community Plans | Zoning Bylaws Zoning is one of the most important tools that the Regional District uses to implement the land use objectives and policies contained in its Official Community Plans. Zoning bylaws achieve this by specifying the permitted uses that may occur within the various parts of our unincorporated Electoral Areas and by regulating the density of development and the size, shape and siting of new buildings and additions that may occur within these zones. Mapping The Planning Department's Mapping section prepares and maintains a wide variety of maps and other graphical material for the Regional District.
